Session 3 -- Women at Pentacost: Gifts
The story of Pentecost is typically based on the account found in Acts 2:1-21. It is a wonderful description of the birthday of the Christian church as the Holy Spirit descended upon those who were gathered in an upper room in Jerusalem. Peter, standing with the eleven, is mentioned as being present for this spectacular event, but no women are named.
However, in reading Acts 1:12-14, we discover that women were, indeed, present on the day the church was born. Mary the mother of Jesus is specifically named along with "certain women." The women were present at Pentecost, the spirit was poured upon them, and they were vital in spreading the Good News to all corners of the world.
Through faithful exploration of the biblical narrative it is our task to unearth the life and story of these women. We meet the Women at Pentecost as we bridge the generations and discover that we women today share similar stories and gifts.
